Car drove in Salzburg in the guest garden: eight injured • NEWS.AT
In a serious traffic accident in the city of Salzburg on Sunday afternoon, eight people were injured, three of them seriously. At 5:25 p.m., a car left the road on Alpenstraße, hit a mother with her stroller on the sidewalk and grazed the garden of a fast-food restaurant. The 73-year-old driver of the car had experienced a medical emergency at the wheel, police informed.
The driver from the Berchtesgadener Land was on the Alpenstraße heading into town. His 77-year-old wife and an 87-year-old friend were still in the car. Because of sudden health problems, he lost control of the vehicle. The car drove unchecked across the oncoming lane onto the sidewalk and hit a 32-year-old woman and her two-year-old child, who was sitting in a stroller. The vehicle then broke through the structural partition to the guest garden of a fast-food restaurant, hit several traffic signs and finally came to a standstill on a large rock at the entrance to a sports shop.
According to the police, the child suffered severe injuries. The mother and the driver themselves also made serious discoveries. All three were taken to hospitals accompanied by an emergency doctor, said the Red Cross officer on duty, Benjamin Braunstein, to the APA. Five other people, including the other two occupants of the vehicle, escaped with lighter findings. The driver from Bavaria was not responsive at the scene of the accident. An alcohol test in the course of medical care was negative.
Since a large amount of gas had escaped from the air conditioning of the accident car, the police set up a blocking circuit. The Alpenstraße was completely blocked in the accident area for several hours.
The Red Cross was at the scene of the accident with a total of four emergency doctors, two helicopters and six rescue vehicles. The crisis intervention team is also available to those affected. The professional fire brigade was deployed with five vehicles and 18 men, and the police moved in with 18 patrol crews.
