RAHMI ASAL, MANAGER OF ISTANBUL ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUMS: “Precious Than BELOW ISTANBUL”
Ayse Ozdemir x [email protected] – Meet with Rahmi Asal, Director of the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, at the Haydarpaşa excavation site. Asal, whose excavations we have been able to carry out on both the objects in Istanbul and Haydarpaşa, begins with the “Northwest Harbor of Ancient Kalkh” on it. Asal, who made progress in the Haydarpaşa excavation in the kitchen on May 13, 2018, on an area of 75 thousand square meters, said, “We act with the understanding that we should go deeper when we come across an important birtu. This standard says that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Transport and the Regional Conservation Board give us all kinds of permissions. Asal answers “What has been found up to the Haydarpaşa excavations” as follows: “What has not been found! Haydarpaşa excavations are mostly taken into account if there are historical remains from the Hellenistic Period. This excited us the most. This area was a necropolis (cemetery) area during the Hellenistic Period. Then it is ancient as a port in the Late Roman, Early Byzantine Period. Most of the finds are also coins, for example from Late Roman, Early Byzantine. Coins belong to the 4th and 7th century. A few fragments were also found. B.C. 4. Find 18,000 coins up to the late Ottoman period. B.C. Chalcedon coin from your 4th world… it was a trade area here, and the coins are everyone’s territory.” Architectural future is the background A late Roman, Early Byzantine Byzantine project and a villa-style building with a small bath, pool and column bases are also at the end, says Asal. “Both the Byzantine period suena, Hellenistic period museums, pottery sherds, oil lamps, fragrance bottles, period stations and tulas belonging to her own,” he says.
grave finds
You can also say the following about the recording of the corpse after it was burned in the tomb belonging to the Hellenistic Period in Haydarpaşa. mausoleum BC. 1st world, 2,000 years old. There is a history of cremation. For example, Bronze Age cremation was found in ancient tombs in Beşiktaş. There is cremation in Yenikapı during the Neolithic Period.” Fragrance bottles were also found in the tomb belonging to the Hellenistic Period. Asal provides the following information in this comparison: “Scent bottles, giving gifts to the dead show reflection. For example, they buried the dead by wearing coins in their mouth and eyes. Because in the Hellenistic Period, there was a boat in Rome according to your belief, they could buy the souls of the dead from this world. There is a fee on top of that, it doesn’t cost that much to the boatman, I pick you up and you’re left in limbo. In addition, in ancient Egypt, utensils are placed on the killed, it is believed that the person will be resurrected after death and those items will be used. Small statues of servants were also placed in the Egyptian tombs, so that the brain could be at ease in this world. “
Station difference and archeopark
Asal is a project of the Ministry of Vaccination. Since we thought that this place continues to stay on the station, because we thought that the finds here would be integrated into the project here, the archeopark is also being considered, since it plans a museum or two. But of course, this issue is in the Ministry of Transport. A good future. In fact, the station, the pier, the road to the Ayrılık Çeşmesi can become a very beautiful cultural and transfer center.” (After the interview, Minister of Transport Adil Karaismailoğlu also announced that Haydarpaşa continues as a station gap and archeopark.)
other excavations
Archaeological excavations in Istanbul are not in play with Haydarpaşa. “Five or six of them are big project excavations, just like in Haydarpaşa and Beşiktaş. The other is special land excavations in the Historic Peninsula.” In other words, there is a constant activity under Istanbul just like its top… Asal Istanbul Archeology Museums, who says, “Actually, more below than above”, has added to the last 20 images of Istanbul Archeology Museums, that Istanbul has not changed the historical claims, but “very new additions,” Target also emphasizes: “ For example, Beşiktaş was more than its history. There was something in the Ottoman Empire, in Byzantium, in ancient sources, it was mentioned in a sentence or two that it was here. But during the excavation, Bronze Age tombs and kurgans were found. At the entrance of Beşiktaş, Serencebey Slope. So is Yenikapi. What was it called? “Istanbul, BC. 7. It was founded by the Megarians.” But we are actually hell. In Yenikapı, a figure that means the Period, that is, “n 9 thousand years”, appeared. When you get to know about you in archeology, you discover something new about everything. As long as we dig right, competent people do it.”
new excavation permanent
Rahmi Asal says that 90 percent of his excavations in Istanbul are directed to the regional health committees: “Mesel came because it is known that Haydarpaşa is a protected area. Because the one in the board will be held under the supervision of the museum here. In large projects, a visit may be requested to enter the site. For example, it was known that Yenikapı was the port of Theodosius from the Eastern Roman Period. As such, it was the vaccinations that had to be done under our supervision. There are also excavations we have targeted under the name of urban archeology, for example there are certain points of Ayamama, Yarımburgaz and Fikirtepe.
Istanbul’s historical history
Well, how many Istanbuls are under Istanbul? Asal explains: “If we talk about it chronologically, there is a region that predicts all periods as much as talking about history. In fact, we can divide the prehistory into periods. There is prehistory, there is the Greek, there is the Byzantine, there is the Ottoman and there is the Republic. When we say prehistory, there are Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, and if we add these, there are 10 separate tannings. We can detect them in the first main settlements. For example, in the Historic Peninsula, in Yarımburgaz, Pendik, Fikirtepe, Haydarpaşa. It is located in Istanbul from all over the world. For example, Yarımburgaz in Başakşehir is one of the earliest, there is a whole development from the first human to it. The finds from Istanbul can be in our museum, and you can be very comfortable with the wealth of being human. In Yarımburgaz, 600 thousand subjects are mentioned. The finds in our museum are more than 10 thousand.
