Portugal ends Europeans with eight medals
Portugal closed this Sunday its participation in the second edition of the European multisports, which took place in Munich, Germany, with a total of eight medals and 24 more places in the top 10.
Canoeing was the most special modality, contributing with five gold medals, by Kevin Santos (K 200 meters) and Fernando Pimenta (K1 5,000), canoeist who also added a silver (K1 1,000 meters) and a bronze ( k1 500) to his resume, having reached 121 medals in his career.
The award went to Norberto Mourão, who won bronze in the VL2 200 of adapted canoeing, a modality that was also the one that arrived the most with positions among the top 10, out of a total of 10.
Athletics was also published with medals and top places, highlighted in this medal by Pablo Pichardo in the gold vault and in the silver of Auriol Dongmo in the shot put.
There is also the two fifth places of Patrícia Mamona (triple jump) and Liliana Cá (release of the record), and the two places within the top 10 of the marchers Ana Cabecinha, eighth in the 20 km, and Inês Henriques, ninth in the 35 km. .
Track cycling has confirmed itself as an emerging female modality in Portugal, highlighting the gold of Iúri Leitão in the men’s scratch, which I still have two fourth places, one by Maria Martins in the scratch and the other in the men’s madison, in a team composed by Iúri Leitão and Diogo Narciso, as well as two sixth places, by Diogo Narciso and Daniela Campos, both in the race for points.
In road cycling, and again through Maria Martins, highlighting the sixth place in the women’s long-distance event, the Portuguese runner finished in sixth place, with the winner’s time, in what was the best result of a Portuguese in the bottom of a cycling European Championship, repeating the performance of Rui Costa in 2016.
Table tennis was at the door of medals on occasions, two of them in games known in the ‘black’, the first by Shao Jieni, in the women’s singles competition by Xiaona Shan by 4-3, and by Tiago Apolónia, also beaten by the Slovenian Darko Jorgic 4-3. The same Shao Jieni finished in the ‘quarters’ in the women’s doubles competition, teaming up with Fu Yu.
In addition to these three fifth places, table tennis also has a ninth place by Marcos Freitas.
