Greece to send two amphibious planes to Portugal
The European Union today made available two aircraft to fight fires in Portugal, the Mechanism following the request for support to the European Civil Protection, announced the Government.
The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) mentions in a note that the two devices, two Canadair, should arrive in Portugal on Sunday afternoon, “being immediately integrated into the device” for fighting fires.
In view of the meteorological information for the next few days, which point to a continent at risk of rural fire, the Government today determined the alert situation on the continent, which will be in force between 00:00 on 21 August and 23: 59 on August 23rd.
The European Union (EU) announced, on Thursday, in a statement, that it has already mobilized in this “hard summer” 29 planes, eight helicopters, 360 firefighters and over a hundred vehicles to respond to requests for assistance across Europe under the European Civil Protection.
The Commission added that “in addition, the EU ‘Conicus’ satellite emergency mapping service has been activated for forest fires in 46 countries” and that “about 1500 firefighters from Germany, Romania, Romania, France, Finland and to Greece in July and August for the local fire department”.
