Bitcoin, not crypto: What makes the BTC22 in Innsbruck special
The largest German-speaking Bitcoin conference will take place in Innsbruck in September. It differs from the competition in Miami and Amsterdam.
Bitcoiners know each other mainly from social media like Twitter, says Peter Taschler, head of the Eventation event agency and organizer of BTC22, the largest Bitcoin conference in the German-speaking world, which is scheduled to take place in Innsbruck from September 15th to 17th. On Twitter, however, people often only know each other under a pseudonym, and the tone is often rough. In Innsbruck, the Bitcoiners, who are often “out of the ordinary” in their environment, can then meet their peers face to face. And they can immediately reflect self-critically on whether Bitcoin, with its personality cult surrounding the unknown founder Satoshi Nakamoto and its universal promise of salvation (“Bitcoin fixes this”), does not already have features similar to religion.
“The most conservative form of saving”
The “Plebs” – self-designation for sworn Bitcoiners – are only one target group of the conference. The others are well-off people, possibly entrepreneurs, who have some money on the side and don’t really know what to do with it. You can find out what bitcoin is. The most conservative form of saving there is, says Taschler.
