TRAVEL REPORT: Feeling Finnair – Crowne Plaza, Helsinki
Crowne Plaza, Helsinki
The feeling of Finnair
After a short walk from the tram stop, I got in.
When going to the reception, it was full of dark woods and Nordic design.
I walked to the reception desk. My information was verified for check-in and room keys were given.
I was upgraded from a basic room to a club room with access to the club lounge. My price also included breakfast (something I didn’t pay attention to when I booked the hotel room – but that’s fine with me).
A welcome drink was offered, i.e. 600 points. I took the points because my IHG balance is pretty…weak.
Everything in my hands I went to the 9th floor – the Club floor.
There are some odd twists and turns to this hotel layout – but I found my room at the end of the corridor.
Opening the room – it’s a huge room. Plenty of space to bounce around – or fall asleep.
The room was dominated by a double bed – which was the right firmness for me (let’s talk like this – after a bad night’s sleep, that bed worked quite well for me.
The aircon was set to cold – the perfect temperature for yours truly (having come from the hot UK and returning to it was something I hadn’t planned on). The wall is dominated by the television.
There was a coffee maker, a kettle and cups below.
Nearby was a desk facing out the window.
There were two sockets and two USB-A sockets on the table.
This is not difficult for people. Adding USB ports (both A and C) should no longer be an afterthought.
Let’s look at the bathroom. This is a big case with individual amenities to say the least.
These were filled every day. And as you can see, there were bathrobes, also slippers.
It’s almost like they want you to stay in a hotel or something.
The design itself was very Nordic. With nice touches everywhere.
There was also a Nespresso compatible coffee machine real Nespresso pods. This is one way some hotels can get cheap rates by using generic pods instead of branded ones. So this is a really nice touch.
As for the view – well. Not bad.
The hotel offers a Club lounge for those who qualify. There is a lounge area that is part of the breakfast served here, as well as a happy hour in the evenings with alcoholic drinks and snacks.
Breakfast in the Club Lounge
Evening snacks
Or a late night blogging spot in some social comfort.
Beverage station
Breakfast is served downstairs in the restaurant on the ground floor.
As usual, your name will be checked against the list. It allows you to sit back and relax and then go play “Help Yourself”.
As we know, buffet breakfast can be a lot of fun.
The breakfast buffet at this hotel was… extensive, to say the least. Working around stations
Hot items
salads and…
And salmon. Because why not?
Bread products
this is actually something pretty good – a food section dedicated to those on special diets (gluten-free, lacto-free, etc.). Very good touch.
Superfoods for those who like such things.
Berries and yogurts
Cereals
Is that so. You. App-based drink machine. One day I will have a post about this. But not today.
It’s a very good buffet with options for all tastes – beats the standard continental or the sausage/beans/egg option. The options are nice
Checking out of the hotel was simple and the reception confirmed that I was leaving (I had paid on arrival – some paid on departure).
With that, I set out to investigate.
Overall: Impressive for the price, to say the least. The hotel was well maintained, the room design was logical and full of first-class amenities. A massive breakfast buffet is a lovely thing to see (and for once – worth the extra in my opinion (some just aren’t worth getting out of bed for).
An update – while not necessary, it was welcome.
Next, getting to know Suomenlinna.
