One dead in a shooting in a shopping center in Sweden
MALMO, Sweden – A man wounded in a shooting at a shopping mall in Sweden on Friday has died, police said, as a woman injured in the same attack remained in hospital.
“The man has succumbed to his injuries,” police said in a statement, adding that the woman was receiving medical treatment.
The police have previously said that they arrested the suspected shooter in the incident in southern Malmö.
They ruled out a possible “terrorist” motive, saying the shooting appeared to be “an isolated incident linked to criminal groups”.
Local media quoted eyewitnesses as saying the suspect had fired indiscriminately into the crowd, but police did not confirm this.
“We believe the immediate danger is now over,” a police spokesman said.
In July, three people were killed in a shooting in a shopping center in the Danish capital Copenhagen, about 30 kilometers from Malmö.
