Westbahn may travel to Innsbruck from December

The mostly private Westbahn will be allowed to travel to Innsbruck from December. According to the Rail Control Commission, ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG has withdrawn its application for an examination of the economic balance of its traffic. This ends the proceedings before the commission and the Westbahn can carry out journeys to Innsbruck with the timetable change on December 11th.
One was originally of the opinion that the application had to be submitted for legal reasons, an ÖBB spokesman told the “Salzburger Nachrichten”: “We wanted to be on the safe side”. However, an examination by lawyers showed that this was not necessary, which is why the application to the rail control was withdrawn. “We see every offer that brings more public transport positively,” said the spokesman.
According to media reports, Westbahn is planning three trips per day in each direction, with stops in Kufstein and Wörgl after the stop in Salzburg. The exact departure times will be announced in mid-September. Then the ticket booking is activated.
Regarding ticket recognition, there are currently discussions with the Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT), according to Ines Volpert, press spokeswoman for Westbahn, to ORF Tirol. Specific information as to whether the VVT tickets will also be valid on Westbahn trains is not yet available.
