San Marino. PSD: “War in Ukraine, the risk of an atomic disaster unacceptable”
We receive and publish a reflection from the San Marino PSD on the war in Ukraine.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has reached a further staggering threshold with the military occupation of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. The Russian invasion now involves directly in the theater of war, in a frightening way, the atomic plant of Zaporizhzhia. The dangerous infrastructure is put to serious penitentiary and an atomic disaster is feared.
The Party of Socialists and Democrats, also a reminder of the Chernobyl disaster and its effects, deems the risk of an atomic accident caused by this reckless warfare unacceptable. Faced with this unsustainable threat, with its immense human and environmental consequences, we want to join the international appeals that from many sides, but above all in Europe, urgently to the Russian Federation to desist from the occupation and withdraw its military forces.
The PSD reminds everyone of their responsibilities, starting with the council political forces, and recalls the decision of the International Court of Justice, the main organ of the United Nations, which last March 16 ordered the Russian Federation to judge the invasion and stop any regular and irregular armed unit directed or supported by it.
Our appeal is also addressed to all people of good will to join this call to responsibility, to protect our safety and the environment in which we live from further and unnecessary danger.
