Braga hosts Noroeste Festival with music from the North of Portugal and Galicia
The Noroeste Music Festival will enliven the city of Braga on the 25th, 26th and 27th of August with a set of concerts that cross the local and the global, the traditional and the contemporary and the influences of the millenary region of the Northwest Peninsular with music fusion, jazz and world music.
Promoted through a partnership between the Municipality of Braga and Arca de Sons Associação Cultural, the Festival offers six concerts, two per stage, starting at 9:30 pm and 10:30 pm on Avenida Central.
Noroeste was born within the scope of Braga 2021 – Capital of Culture of the Eixo Atlântico. After a first edition, which took place at Altice Forum Braga due to the pandemic, the Festival will now return to the original idea of the Street Festival.
In the programming of this important festival, it will be confirmed as premises, in the continuation of the project started in 2021, the continuation of the continuation of the Eixo Atlântico Capital from the time of Braga as a center of important creation and celebration of the culture of the North, this search and celebration of the culture the Peninsular Atlantic Axis (Northern Portugal / Galicia); similar weights in artistic proposals on both sides of the Eixo Atlântico euro-region border and to promote local and regional artistic creation, with relevant international partnerships from a cultural point of view.
On the first day, the group “Origem Tradicional” and Canto D’Aqui take the stage. On the second day, it is the turn of “Duo Caamaño and Plums” and “Maria Quê”.
Closing the festival will be “Antía Muiño” and Manuel de Oliveira – ENTRE-LUGAR, with the special participation of Ton Risco (Vibrafone).
Program:
- August 25 (Thursday): 21:30 – Traditional Origin – is one of the oldest groups in the Portuguese traditional, folk and popular scene. He has toured Portugal, between theaters, festivals and pilgrimages, and, internationally, performed in certain folk cultures and with Portuguese emigrant communities, where he conveys in his concerts the joy of the people and their secular heritage; 10:30 pm – Canto D’Aqui – founded in 1984, the Canto D’Aqui Group has developed an important work in the research and dissemination of traditional and popular Portuguese music, with the aim of keeping our musical culture alive. It is currently composed of ten, which it interprets as regions of instruments of low significance, mandolins as instruments, mandolins, violas braguesas, concerto de grande, guitar others, which accompany a set of voices of melodic quality, among others of a traditional nature, which accompanies a set of melodic quality voices.
- August 26 (Friday): 21:30 – Duo Caamaño and Ameixeiras – a revelation duet in Galicia, which has traveled all over Spain and Europe with its Root songs interpreted with unusual virtuosity and contemporaneity; 10:30 pm – Maria Quê – acalanto is the name of the new musical show by Maria Quê, which unites cultures and traditions from different parts of the world. The sound of “Maria Quê” is influenced by the various experiences of the musicians involved – from world music, to jazz, to electronic music –, with a particular focus on traditional songs that balance different geographical areas and cultures, crossing tradition with contemporaneity. “Embalo das Marés” is the name of the first record, released in March 2020.
- August 27 (Saturday): 21:30 – Antía Muiño is a singer, guitarist and songwriter. Working on the legacy of acoustic music, many have dubbed her the “new muse of Galician music” – she stands out for her unique voice and exciting live performances. Author songs, traditional Galician music and jazz music come together in this project, combining different sounds, including guitar, voice, wind, keyboard and percussion; 10:30 pm – Manuel de Oliveira – ENTRE-LUGAR, with the special participation of Ton Risco (Vibraphone) – Manuel de Oliveira presents himself with a special formation in quintet, with João Frade on accordion, Sandra Martins on cello, Quiné Teles on drums and percussion and Carl Mineman on bass and double bass, to play “Entre-Lugar” and revisit some of the themes from “Iberia” and “Amarte”. This concert also has a special participation by the renowned Galician Vibrafonista Ton Risco.
