‘Altana’, a project by Stefano Arienti in San Marino
(ANSA) – SAN MARINO, 17 FA – The ‘Altana’ exhibition by Stefano Arienti opens on 17 September in the Republic of San Marino – on the occasion of the European Heritage Days dedicated to sustainable heritage. The project, born from Claudio Poleschi Arte Contemporanea (who has moved its headquarters from Lucca to San Marino for some years), finds the hospitality and collaboration of the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture, of the Cultural Institutes – Museums of State – National Gallery of San Marino. Three site specific interventions, until January 31st, on the slopes of Mount Titano, carried out in important public institutional museums for contemporary art – the National Gallery, the Cisterns of Palazzo Pubblico and the Ex Galleria Ferroviaria Il Montale – are the premise of the exhibition at the Claudio Poleschi Contemporary Art, located on the border of the small state. Stefano Arienti is one of the major contemporary artists who characterized the Italian scene of the 90s, and is already part of the path and history of San Marino in the National Gallery of which, in 1995, he exhibited in the exhibition ‘Le Mille e una Volta’ . At the National Gallery, which presents works from the permanent collection – from Vedova, Cagli, Birolli and Guttuso to Enzo Mari and Luigi Ontani – Arienti works on the large windows with a series of drawings arranged like curtains, visible against the light; titled ‘Views’, they are views of landscapes observed by the Titan. In the ancient Cisterns of the Palazzo Pubblico, which until the 1960s represented the main source of water supply for the Republic, the artist played on the glistening effects of glass, building a silhouette of Europe through the combination of containers of different shapes and reflections. In the former Galleria Ferroviaria Il Montale, famous for having hosted, during the Second World War, thousands of refugees from the area to save themselves from bombing under the umbrella of neutrality of the Government of the Titan, Arienti erects ‘Castello’, a structure of stones and books, made cohesive by honey and lard. Finally, at Claudio Poleschi Arte Contemporanea, he exhibits examples of most of his artistic career, with different types of works. (HANDLE).
