The ‘mystery’ of the Google center in Portugal
The history of Google in Portugal has a before and an after of 2018. Until that year, the presence of the internet giant was little more than a used one, tiny in a peripheral country. In 2018, the turning point came, which saw the installation of a supplier center with 500 professionals in Lagoas Park, in Oeiras. Companies that work for Google. The Government, which in an opportunity to show how the country is attractive for foreign investment, only had to wait for a second good news in 2019, Alphabet (which owns Google) confirmed the first time: increase from 500 to 1350 the total of supplier center professionals. After three years, little or nothing has been announced, but Expresso knows that the supplier center has not stopped growing and now also occupies two buildings in the Quinta da Fonte business park, also in Oeiras. As far as it was possible to ascertain, there will be around 600 people working for Google through supplier companies that have settled in Quinta da Fonte. The group that owns Google does not comment or provide details on what goes on at the supplier center.
Sources in the technology sector refer to the center of works that come to run the hand of Accenture and Teleperformance, but it will not be surprising that there are more brands. There are mentions of services provided, such as Parque das Nações, in Lisbon. The labor of the suppliers has a technical assistance service. There are also reports of content review services, support for advertising insertion programs or data quality control. Services are foreign to the different geographies, and therefore a substantial part of the foreign workers dominate or dominate the geography.
