Servette goalie Frick. “I don’t want to play anywhere else, I want to win titles here.”
Jérémy Frick is the standout man at Servette after the first few games of the season. The goalie talks to blue Sport about his big dream and explains why he can’t imagine leaving Geneva.
Servette got off to a good start in the season and the Geneva team are still undefeated after three match days. There was a 1-0 win against St.Gallen at home, followed by a 1-1 draw in Basel and a 0-0 draw in Sion. Servette owes the strong start primarily to Jérémy Frick. The keeper showed numerous brilliant saves in the three games, only once he had to reach behind him.
The 29-year-old appears to be in the form of his life. However, Frick does not see himself destined for higher tasks, for example in a top league. “I’ve been with Servette since I was a child. I don’t want to play anywhere else, I just want to take my club further,” he said in an interview with blue Sport.
The big dream of the title
The foreign adventure that many professionals dream of has long been behind the goalie anyway. In 2009, the then 16-year-old Frick switched to the youth department of Olympique Lyon. At the top French club, he gradually got closer to the pros, and at one point or another he was in the squad with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso. But it’s never enough for a mission. So Frick moved back to Switzerland in 2015. After a year at FC Biel, he returned to the regular club Servette in 2016.
He was born in Geneva in 1993, where he feels at home – and doesn’t want to leave. Nevertheless, the keeper has big goals. “If we want to grow as a club, we have to win titles. There are two of them in Switzerland,” says Frick. «I’ve had this dream since I returned to Servette. I want to be remembered by the club. I want to make history!”
Servette is still one of the most successful Swiss football clubs. The last title, the cup win in 2001, was 21 years ago. The last championship title in 23 years. At that time, little Jérémy was still in kindergarten.
Winterthur is waiting on Saturday
“Playing in Geneva is extraordinary,” says Frick. For a few months it’s even more special for him, because the goalkeeper has been Servette Captain since last season. “I’m proud to wear the captain’s armband. But I couldn’t do that if I didn’t feel the support of the team. A captain can’t do anything on his own,” says the great team player. “My thanks go to all the people who help me to achieve my goals.”

Who knows, maybe Servette will be the big surprise team this season. In any case, Jérémy Frick is bursting with self-confidence. On Saturday, the next task awaits Geneva with the game against newly promoted Winterthur. If Servette wants to keep dreaming of something big, only victory counts.
Of course, Winterthur captain Granit Lekaj sees things a little differently…
