The state of Tyrol announced that an appeal can be lodged against the decision within four weeks. However, the suspensive effect of any appeal was denied.
Numerous cracks detected
The male wolf 108 MATK was already caught several times in Tyrol in 2021 at a deer kill in Neustift im Stubaital (district Innsbruck-Land) and at livestock kills in Trins (district Innsbruck-Land), Hopf Aussergarten in Defereggen, Hopf Ausservillgraten and Assling (all Lienz district) and in Carinthia. The animal was last detected on July 14, 2022 not far from the Lavanter Alm in Carinthia. The second detected wolf 121 FATK is a female animal that was last detected on July 6, 2021 in a dead sheep in the Carinthian Drautal.
Both large carnivores were subsequently assigned to the livestock kills of July 24 on the Lavanter Alm using genetic analysis. A total of 17 sheep and one goat were killed and three sheep injured in the event. An eleven-month-old ox on the Lavanter Alm was also very likely to have been killed by wolves. This was the first case in Tyrol in which an almost one-year-old cow weighing around 300 kilograms was very likely torn by large predators. Samples were taken for further investigation.
