Champion EC Red Bull Salzburg suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at HC Motor České Budějovice in the opening friendly. The Red Bulls started the preseason on Friday as the first team in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The highlight in Salzburg’s preparations is once again the Red Bulls Salute, which will take place in Kitzbühel next weekend (13/08 – 14/08).
In the semi-finalists of the Czech Tipsport Extraliga, EC Red Bull Salzburg had to admit a 2:3 defeat despite a 2:1 lead in the meantime. After a goalless first 20 minutes, the home side took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. However, the Red Bulls responded promptly. Only 27 seconds after going behind, the reigning champions made it 1-1 thanks to Peter Schneider. Right at the beginning of the final section, Ty Loney even put the “Mozartstädter” in the lead before Budweis was able to turn the game in his favor with a double strike within 105 seconds. No further goals were then scored and Salzburg, who traveled to the Czech Republic without goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen, Luca Auer, Oskar Maier and Lucas Thaler, suffered a narrow defeat at the start of the preseason.

This promises ice hockey fans two exciting tournament days for the fourth time in a row in the Sportpark Kitzbühel.
