400 pigs die in a major fire in Oberndorf near Salzburg
More than 400 pigs died in a barn fire on Friday afternoon in Göming near Oberndorf, Austria (state of Salzburg). The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
A machine hall started to burn at 12.30 p.m., the fire spread to the pig shed, which burned down completely. Agricultural vehicles and machines in the hall were also destroyed. The exact amount of damage has not yet been determined. The cause is also still unclear. The State Criminal Police Office has started the investigation. An expert was also appointed.
300 firefighters in action – also from Germany
A firefighter was injured while putting out the fire. He had to be taken to the Oberndorf hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. A total of around 300 emergency services and 40 vehicles from the voluntary fire brigades of Göming, Oberndorf, Nußdorf am Haunsberg, Lamprechtshausen, Arnsdorf, Pinswag, Michaelbeuern, Bürmoos, Anthering, Berndorf, Holzhausen, Eching, Seekirchen, Eugendorf and Freilassing were deployed. −kl
