National League: Teemu Hartikainen joins Geneva-Servette HC
Another star for Switzerland
World Champion Hartikainen moves to Geneva
Teemu Hartikainen will move to the National League. According to Blick information, the Finnish world champion and Olympic champion will sign for one year in Geneva.
Teemu Hartikainen was the last (very) big name on the market. After many weeks of waiting, the Finnish winger’s decision was made: According to Blick information, he will sign with Geneva-Servette. The club have received verbal confirmation from the 32-year-old Finnish Olympic and world champion.
He knows the players
In nine KHL seasons, Hartikainen accumulated 419 points in 561 games. He was the top scorer in the 2019 playoffs as well as the most prolific foreigner in the 2020-2021 season with 64 units to his tally. It’s no coincidence that the entire Swiss league was interested in him.
But Teemu Hartikainen knows several players in the Geneva squad very well. He played with Linus Omark in North America (Edmonton and Oklahoma City) and in Russia (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) for seven seasons.
Impressive Legion
In addition, Teemu Hartikainen has had an exceptional year together with his compatriots Sami Vatanen and Valtteri Filppula. All three became Olympic champions in Beijing and won the gold medal at their home world championships. So it’s obvious why he chose Geneva.
With the latest addition, Geneva-Servette could have the most impressive foreign legion in the National League. Teemu Hartikainen completes a group consisting of defenders Henrik Tömmernes and Sami Vatanen and forwards Linus Omark, Daniel Winnik and Valterri Filppula. If you then add summer reinforcements like Vincent Praplan or Alessio Bertaggia, there could be a spectacle in Geneva this year.
Two strikers for Lausanne
Lausanne HC has completed its contingent of foreigners with strikers Michael Raffl and Daniel Audette.
Austrian winger Raffl joins the Vaud side from the NHL. Last season, the 33-year-old from Villach made 83 appearances with the Dallas Stars (9 goals, 10 assists). In nine years in North America, Raffl made 629 appearances in the NHL (96 goals, 94 assists). In Lausanne he has now signed a contract for two seasons.
The Canadian center doesn’t make it past the AHL in North America. In the last two seasons, the 26-year-old has played in Finland, Russia and Sweden. (SDA)
