Seekirchen indoor swimming pool: Realistic start of construction in 2023
politics
The construction of a public indoor swimming pool in Seekirchen (Flachgau) is now becoming concrete. The last financing questions seem to have been clarified and, according to the municipality of Seekirchen, the plans for the construction are also ready for implementation. The budget is around 20 million euros – a start of construction in autumn 2023 is realistic.
The new indoor pool is to be built in the immediate vicinity of the sports facility in the Seekirchen district. Several swimming pools are planned, which will be around 700 square meters in size and offer eight 25-meter lanes. The state assumes around 70 percent of the costs from the municipal equalization fund – which corresponds to around 14.5 million euros. The annual company turnover is estimated at 400,000 euros net. The municipalities and the region have to bear this amount themselves.
Seekirchen pays a third of the operating costs
The majority of the running costs are borne by the municipality of Seekirchen because of the location, says Seekirchner Mayor Konrad Pieringer (ÖVP): “The municipality of Seekirchen has decided to take on a total of 33 percent of the operating costs instead of the required 25 percent.” The regional association Salzburger Seenland writes usually an allocation key of 25 percent.
Twelve Flachgau municipalities pay
In addition to Seekirchen, the regional association of the Salzburg Lake District includes the municipalities of Obertrum, Straßwalchen, Neumarkt, Henndorf, Mattsee, Köstendorf, Seeham, Berndorf and Schleedorf. Eugendorf and Hallwang also contribute to the costs of the bath. The eleven municipalities share the rest of the operating costs, whereby according to Pieringer, the number of inhabitants is used as the basis for the allocation key.
Gutschi: Relief for the schools
On Tuesday, Governor Wilfried Haslauer, Education Minister Daniela Gutschi and Sports Minister Stefan Schnöll (all ÖVP) together with the Mayors Simon Wallner from Obertrum and Konrad Pieringer from Seekirchen (both ÖVP) got an idea of the plans. For Haslauer, the pool in Seekirchen is a key project from which the entire Flachgau will benefit. Education Minister Gutschi speaks of a relief for the compulsory schools, which are always on the lookout for free lanes for swimming lessons in the current school year.
SPÖ sees itself confirmed
The SPÖ in Salzburg is also relaxed that the plans for the indoor pool in Seekirchen are finally progressing after years of tough negotiations. The Social Democrats see themselves as the idea generator and driver of the project: they have been calling for a bath for the Flachgau for five years. “It took years, many children found it difficult to learn to swim. We hope that the construction of the indoor pool will improve things and that the children can learn to swim safely,” says David Egger, SPÖ state chairman.
