Retail falls in June in EU and Eurozone. Portugal escapes the trend with a slight slight – European Union
The volume of retail trade – seasonally adjusted – in June fell by 3.7% year on year in the Euro Zone and 2.8% in the European Union (EU).
Already in chain analysis, against, the volume of trade with respect to the zone of May of 1.2% up and 1.3% in the EU after according to the data of the previous month of Eurostat.
In chain, during this period in the Euro Zone, the segment of non-food products registered the biggest fall (2.6%), followed by automotive products (1.1) and food, beverages and tobacco (0.4%). .
In the EU, and following the same pattern of analysis, food products also fell by 2.6%. The fuel segment fell by 1.4% and food, beverages and tobacco increased by 0.2%.
Compared to May, Denmark (-3.8%), the Netherlands (-3.4%) and Estonia (-2.4%) registered the biggest contractions in the volume of retail trade. Ireland and Malta (0.5%), Finland (0.3%) and Austria (0.2%), commanded the gains. Portugal joins the group of losses, with the volume of national trade falling by 1.9% in the chain.
Fuels Segment and Portugal buck the trend
In year-on-year terms, the fall in the volume of retail trade is even more expressive both in the Eurozone and in the EU.
In the Euro Zone, compared to June 2021, the non-food sector saw volume fall by 3.1%, while composites totaled 2%.
In the EU, the volume of food does not eat food and 3.9% in the case of non-food products and 2.3% in the case of food products, food, also here the volume of trade in food grew by 2.7%.
Compared to June last year, Denmark (-9.5%) with the biggest drop in volume, followed Germany and Ireland (both -8.8%) and the Netherlands (-6.1%).
The largest increases were observed in the past in Slovenia (22.1%), Poland (9.3%) and Cyprus (8.4%). the group of Member States that saw the volume of trade grow, more specifically 0.9%.
