High number of unreported cases of Covid19 infections – salzburg.ORF.at
Coronavirus
Due to the regular testing activity, the number of CoV infections in Salzburg could currently be significantly higher than the official figures show. The country’s CoV coordinator, Peter Schinnerl, suspects that there are currently four to five times as many new infections than the 300 reported.
The number of corona tests has fallen dramatically in the past few weeks and months. it is therefore clear that the number of unreported infections is significantly higher than the official figures suggest, says Schinnerl. It therefore also uses other indicators to assess the CoV situation in the federal state. “The assessment of the situation tends to move away from the seven-day incidence and we use other indicators – then the hospitalization rate, then we rely a lot on the wastewater analyses.” Because with them you can make good comparisons to selected CoV waves, says Schinnerl .
Unreported cases may be four to five times as high
The wastewater analyzes and the comparison of the current number of hospital cases with those in spring show that the current hospitalization rate is around 1,200 to 1,500 new infections a day. “But we only see 300 to 500,” says Schinnerl.
Hope for more tests because of quarantine
The hope of the country’s corona managers is that many people can be tested again as the quarantine regulations are relaxed. Because – if the test is positive – they are no longer subject to any restrictions if they are symptom-free.
Other test options in the state
The state of Salzburg also says that the corona test options in the state will remain open. There are also five free home PCR gargle tests available from Novogenia or five PCR tests from pharmacies. Visitors and employees in facilities to be protected (hospitals, care for the elderly and children or similar) can use these test options without restrictions.
The official PCR drive-in test stations also remain unaffected by the quarantine. Suspected cases can call 1450 and be assigned an appointment, it also works similarly online at www.salzburg-testfalenet.at.
