Capitals prospect Oskar Magnusson named to Sweden’s junior WC team
Washington Capitals 2020 seventh round draft pick Oskar Magnusson has made Sweden’s U-20 junior WC team. Magnusson recently attended DC for this year’s development camp.
The Swedish forward had originally made this Swedish team when the tournament was first scheduled to be held and was played for two games before being called off due to covid-19.
The Caps drafted Magnusson, who has already played parts of two seasons with Malmö’s senior team in the SHL, with the 211th overall pick in 2020. He has since transferred to AIK where he played 41 games in 2021-22 in the second team. of Swedish professional hockey.
In those 41 games, he scored five goals and assisted another six. Magnusson extended his contract with AIK for two seasons until last week.
The 2022 World Junior tournament was originally scheduled to be held from December 26, 2021 to January 5, 2022 in Edmonton and Red Deer. On December 29, after several matches had been canceled and declared forfeit due to covid-19 positives within the teams, the IIHF announced that the tournament had been cancelled.
The rescheduled action begins on August 9 and Sweden plays its first match on August 10 against Switzerland.
