Vaccination protects: 99.7 percent of those vaccinated have coronavirus antibodies
As an examination of 73,000 blood donations by the Med-Uni Innsbruck shows, 99.7 percent of the samples from vaccinated people contain coronavirus antibodies. For those who are not vaccinated, the figure is around 66 percent. The city is taking these clear figures as an opportunity to focus conscientiously on the vaccination campaign in autumn.
INNSBRUCK. Blood donations have been tested for coronavirus antibodies by the Medical University since last year. In April of this year, 96 percent of all blood donations were donated. In the case of donors who are vaccinated against the corona virus, the proportion is even 99.7 percent, while unvaccinated, who are also clearly in the minority when it comes to donating blood, would only be around 66 percent. The study was also able to show that the number of antibodies was sixteen times higher in vaccinated people who had antibodies than in those who did not have antibodies.
Vaccination as the key to success
As Mayor Georg Willi reports, “the city of Innsbruck is taking these numbers as an opportunity to start the vaccination campaign in autumn with particular care. With this data we can convince even better that vaccination is the key to success. Anyone who wants to take responsibility for themselves, their family, their circle of friends and their work colleagues will be vaccinated. With the vaccination campaign, for which the federal government is making a lot of money available, we want to provide a very low-threshold vaccination offer and get the vaccination protection that this study has proven so well.”
