These music stars perform at the European Championships
Munich Not only top athletes come to the sports event in Munich in August, but also music stars. There will be several top acts at the opening ceremony and there will also be concerts by well-known bands during the eleven days.
The European Championships in Munich from August 11th to 21st will not only feature high-class sport. With the festival “The Roofs” the organizers want to combine sport with culture. So, “as Munich last experienced at the 1972 Olympic Games,” emphasize the organizers.
And so the opening of the European Championships in nine sports on August 10th will be accompanied by bands, artists and light installations that play the entire Olympic Park. But the headliner of the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium is rapper Marteria. The festival begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
“The Olympic Park will become a place of togetherness and community,” was the organizers’ idea. It should be a place for athletes, artists and visitors.
According to the organizers, the celebration on Wednesday, August 10th, should not be a classic opening ceremony. Therefore, a concept with three phases was considered. The first phase has the motto: “Dreamlike rest”.
Walking acts, light installations and bands will take visitors on a one-hour journey into the world of dreams.
At 7.30 p.m. the “awakening” begins. Marching bands then move into the Olympic Park from all directions. There will be different stages for small bands and larger-than-life Dundu dolls and stilt walkers will transform the park into a fairytale forest. Then Marteria comes on stage. The Rostock rapper is one of the most successful solo artists in Germany. The Munich brass band Moop Mama meanwhile provides local color at the celebration.
At the end of the opening comes the “shining life”. Trees should then shine, bands will pull through the park and illuminations will create the right atmosphere.
The “The Roofs” festival takes place over the eleven days, primarily at the Olympic Park, Königsplatz and regatta venues. There are different roofs everywhere – including ones for children, a creative roof or a home roof. Every place should present itself as a “world of experience with its own charm and character”. There will be exhibitions, workshops and sports courses, among other things. The entire roof program, which consists of 168 offers, is free of charge.
There are 75 program items in the music section alone. Spread over the eleven days there should be something for every quick taste in music. There is electronic dance music, Bavarian sounds, jazz and pop music. On August 11th at 8 p.m. the Munich Symphony Orchestra and Oimara will play in the middle roof of the Olympic Park.
A highlight of the extra-sports program at the European Championships is the concert by the Austrian band Wanda, who will be performing in the Olympic Park on Sunday, August 14 from 9 p.m. The Berlin punk band Beatsteaks will be on the Central Roof stage on Tuesday, August 16, from 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, August 20, at 8.45 p.m., there will be another musical highlight on the Central Roof with the performance of Alphaville. Ry X will provide musical entertainment in the Olympic Park on Wednesday, August 17, from 8:30 p.m.
