The deposit for the temporary import of a car in Belarus is considered in Belarusian rubles
In recent years, many Belarusians have been going abroad, buying cars there, and then driving them home. When crossing the border, a citizen of Belarus in a foreign car must leave a deposit for it with the customs authorities.
Previously, the deposit was left and returned in the same currency. Since July 25, 2022, a situation has occurred, writes AutoGrodno. From July 25, a pledge for a car with European registration (financial guarantee) is carried out only in Belarusian rubles at the rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus on the day of registration of the passenger customs duty. Return also.
As before, citizens of Belarus with European registration must follow the red channel when crossing the border. A temporarily imported car may be driven by a person in whose name the declaration will be closed, or any other person who has the right to drive, but in a hidden declaration. An outsider cannot drive such a car on his own.
In what parameter is it necessary to pledge a car at the border of Belarus?
It depends on the year of manufacture of the car, its cost (if the car is up to 3 years old) and on the engine size. In fact, the pledge is on the border of equality and customs clearance. It can be calculated on the website of the customs authority using a calculator.
A few examples:
For a 3-year-old car worth 20,000 euros and a volume of 1800 cm3, you need to pay 9,900 euros.
For a 3-year-old car worth 20,000 euros and a volume of 2000 cm3 – 11,000 euros.
For a car aged 3-5 years with a volume of 1500 cm3 – 2,550 euros.
For the same car with an engine of 1800 cm3 – 4,500 euros.
With a 2000 cm3 engine – 5,400 euros.
With a 2400 cm3 engine – 7,200 euros.
For a car older than 5 years with a 1500 cm3 engine – 4,800 euros.
For the same cars with a 1800 cm3 engine – 6,300 euros.
With a 2000 cm3 engine – 9,600 euros.
With a 2400 cm3 engine – 12,000 euros.

What accidence does it lose on conversion?
As a rule, people living outside of Belarus do not have such amounts in Belarusian rubles. Therefore, there are exchange offices at the checkpoints, where the currency can be exchanged for Belarusian rubles.
Everything would be fine, but when returning the fall pledge, there may be a loss of reduction due to conversion.
For example, as mentioned above, for a car older than 5 years with a 2000 cm3 engine, you need to leave a deposit of 9,600 euros. At the rate of the National Bank on August 2, this is 25,953 Belarusian rubles. In PP “Berestovitsa” there is an exchanger of “Belarusbank”. In order for a tourist to receive 25,953 rubles, he needs to hand over 9,868 euros in this exchanger, and upon return, he will be given a deposit in terms of euros – 9,472.
The difference is 396 euros.
Of course, here how lucky with the course. If during a trip around Belarus the euro “sinks”, then in such a situation the traveler will not lose, but gain.
Will there be so much currency in the exchanger?
Another problem is that in the exchanger, as often happens, there may be no currency in the amount in which cars want to return the deposit. In such cases, he can receive part of the deposit in foreign currency (how much the cashier will have), and take the remaining amount in Belarusian rubles.
What if the deposit is not collected?
That’s also possible. Some familiar correspondents of AutoGrodno do this. They are from Grodno, they drive from Poland to Belarus in Polish cars 1-2 times a month. At such frequencies, the pledge is approaching not to return to his departure from Belarus, and then there is no need to re-pay at the entrance. This saves about half an hour to an hour of time during one trip.
It is noteworthy that one of the readers was left earlier by bail. They said that in euros, since he wore it in euros.
It would be better not to buy a car in Poland
The journalists also talked to their acquaintances, who have repeatedly recalled that they regret buying a car in Poland. This is his special case and his arguments:
“You need to buy a car where you live. If you continue to drive in Belarus, buying a car in Poland is not the best choice.”
Firstly, Polish cars have expensive insurance. From PLN 1500 for the first insurance. If it is over, the penalty comes automatically, where it grows. It doesn’t matter if your car drives or not. For lack of insurance, a fine of PLN 1,200 occurs – for the first three days without a policy, PLN 3,010 – for 4-14 days, PLN 6,020 if there is no insurance for more than two weeks.
Secondly, with a Polish car on a train in Belarus, a motorist serves for about two hours, because he is standing in line for everyone on the red channel.
Thirdly, a Polish car in Poland receives fines from the camera: for speeding, parking incorrectly, driving in a lane for public transport. For violators with Belarusian numbers, such fines do not come.
For comparison, a foreign car in Poland is issued annual insurance in the amount of about PLN 840.
How long can one stay in Poland with a Belarusian car? “According to the law, our car can stay in Poland for 6 months out of a 12-month period. But in my experience, no one cares about it at all.
