Pretty new in Salzburg: Levantine food at Furo
Best belly fullness in Andräviertel
We already know Martin from his pop-up bar MezzeMezze – back then in the old Hirschen. Even then it was just awesome to eat from different plates that Martin set out for us: hummus and homemade sourdough focaccia, funny breads and wild spreads. Now his Levantine cuisine has a permanent home and its own name: the Furo at Lasserstraße 19.
It looks dazzling, the Furo in Andräviertel. Sparkling logo like the tail of a unicorn, the main color inside is lilac-purple, almost like our Good Guide. When we arrive, it’s just before 2 p.m. – the end of lunchtime and Martin quickly gets something ready for us to taste. So much that the table barely starts to bend.
What is there on our table?
To be honest, we don’t really know anymore. But there was definitely a very exciting bread: looks beautiful, tastes exceptionally good. You would never call it a sandwich if it wasn’t on the menu. In addition to the delicious egg-on-top bread, there was this wonderful sourdough focaccia with truffle pesto and Salzburg mountain cheese, hummus, burrata with muhamarra and a few other things. We don’t lie when we say: Everything has its own unique taste and none of them can be dispensed with.
How does the furo get into old Fasties?
The Fasties headquarters used to be where the Furo is now. You know, with the little tramezzini to go. After Fasties was discontinued, Martin moved in with Furo and takes care of us at lunchtime and in the evening. “In the evening,” he says, the restaurant is almost always full, so you should definitely make a reservation.” If you have to sleep by 8 p.m. in the evening – like us – in order to even wake up the next day, treat yourself the furo at noon. Look there from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and get either the lunch menu of the week or one of the nice things from the menu.
And what does furo actually mean?
Furo, we googled that, has many meanings: You can find “rage, rage, romp”. But also “being passionately in love”. Martin has given his company its very own meaning: “Everything is in flux”, it says on Instagram. And somehow it fits perfectly with the on-site experience. No conservative course menu, but many small dishes in the middle of the table, from which you can grab what you feel like. Eating together with the people you like – chatting, eating, having a good time.
Furo to pick up
By the way, Martin also found a really cool solution to the take-away problem (endless garbage): If you want to take a bite of Furo with you, you can either bring your own dishes. That’s the easiest. If you forget it, you can borrow one from Martin. In order for this to work, you register on the rental app, scan the QR code of the Tegerl and take it with you free of charge (the Tegerl, not the food). Next time you come, bring it back. You don’t pay anything. In theory, you could also return the plates to other restaurants that work with the same system as Martin. But there aren’t that many of them in Salzburg yet.

Sneaky advertising, no thanks!
Normally we don’t get any money for our gastronomic tips. There is no surreptitious advertising on Miss Flora. Paid advertising exists, but it’s always flagged and intentionally rare enough not to be a nuisance. In this case we say thank you for the invitation to the meal! It was mega! As always, the opinion is our own.
