Portugal needs 45 to 50 thousand workers in the tourism sector – Turismo & Lazer
The Secretary of State for Tourism estimated that 4,50,000 this Tuesday, vacancies that can be accommodated in tourism in Portuguese-speaking countries under a regime recently.
Speaking to Lusa, on the sidelines of a visit to the Algarve, Rita Marques said that a Portuguese “business mission” is being prepared for the last quarter of the year to “ensure” that the country can receive workers from these countries, with the framework of the new regime for the entry and permanence of workers in Portugal.
“The mission use of maps for the search for reinforcement of Portuguese forces is a mission that leads workers to identify the geographies that aim to lead workers to become workers […] The consular and then administrative services favorably dispatch visas and bring them with workers who intend to enter this sector of activity”, he explained.
According to the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, who met with several representatives of the tourism sector in the Algarve, a Portuguese business mission, which will include various areas of the Government, such as “Labour, Foreign Affairs and Economy”, up in the last quarter of 2022.
“At this time, when there is a vigorous renovation of the tourism sector, we are facing several challenges and one of them has to do, precisely, with the lack of human capital”, he said, adding that, during the meeting with a businessman in the sector, the new law voted in favor in the Assembly of the Republic on 21 July.
According to the official, the new law entered into an agreement with “very relevant and substantial changes in the issuance of visas, namely within the scope of the countries that have ratified the CPLP agreement [Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa]”.
Estimating that between 45,000 and 50,000 workers in the sector are needed to guarantee the quality of services in tourism, Rita Marques considered that the new entry regime and the country were considered workers in Portugal.
However, he stressed, there is a problem “to ensure that this human capital is also adequate and capable” to maintain “a provision of excellent services” in the sector in this matter, such as schools of hospitality and national tourism.
On Rita’s agenda was also a visit to two ‘resorts’ that at the “vanguard” of tourism in the Algarve region, other topics that deserve to be highlighted during her visit to the region, due to a prolonged situation in the dry region that has already led to to be water-saving measures.
Stressing that we are “living in times of change when it comes to natural resources” and that “water is a precious resource without which it cannot provide a quality service”, Rita Marques maintained that a commitment is needed in ” Solution developed which guarantees that this is not secure.
“Our projects aim to work in golf for a few years now in this mission, in this tourist agenda, and this visit was precisely to get to know these waters that develop the best practices with regard to the entities to use respect, to know these good practices and being able to inspire other economic operators to also use them”, he justified.
According to Rita Marques, the urban companies Infraquinta and Infralobo, which manage the Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo ‘resorts’ and have implemented a range of solutions to increase their efficiency, are “two examples of the best that is done in terms of water”.
Visited to understand the destination as “they can be adapted to the transversal and universal context by the Algarve region, by the various municipalities and economic operators, but also nationally for other regions of the country”, he concluded.
