Outings-Leisure | Marseille: la dolce vita in a secret garden
Its terrace is envied. Quiet, spacious, bucolic, shaded, panoramic, friendly. In a word: unique. From the outside, it is impossible to guess what is hiding at the top of rue Poucel (4th). At the gates of the village of Saint-Barnabé, the inhabitants of the district and lovers of Italian cuisine have spread the word. Didn’t find the right address? We tell you everything.
Its name, first: Bastide Massimo. If you arrive early, you can park in the property’s car park (about ten spaces) and once in front of the gate, a terracotta staircase leads to the terrace. Up there, an 18th century bastide and a large hidden garden, which can accommodate a hundred people, with a 180º view of Marseille are revealed. Chef Massimo declines a series of Tuscan specialties, gourmet and fine. On the menu, we love the veal cutlet alla sorrentina, the smoked burrata and its swordfish carpaccio, the linguine with clams. “Everything is fresh, prepared to order according to the seasons, the welcome is friendly and we only do one service so as not to stress the customers and make them feel at home.“, underlines the director of the restaurant opened in 2017, Nicolas Pellecuer.
In the shade of trees at lunch or in the light of garlands at dinner in a chic and relaxed guinguette atmosphere. We never get tired.
