No more refusal to “make racism a topic in Portugal” — DNOTICIAS.PT
Enough, André Ventura, racist president to the children of today who is made “of racism in Portugal”, regarding the alleged insult of Brazilian actors and that Portuguese society “did not reiterate”.
“We are giving importance to this because the actors were Brazilians, but every day there are people, there are forums, there are Brazilians inside, there are Africans inside, there are Ukrainian Indians inside, there are people inside who have conditions in their lives that are less positive, that is not necessarily racism or xenophobia”, defends the Chega leader.
At a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon, Ventura was asked about the complaint by actress, model and presentation Giovanna Ewbank that her children were victims of racism in a restaurant in Costa de Caparica.
A family of Angolan tourists who were not at the site were also victims of racism by an alcoholic woman, who was detained by the authorities, but who, in the meantime, was released.
“What came to me in terms of information is that lady how she got involved with those Brazilians, she already got involved with a series of other people before, and therefore, it didn’t have anything to do with it directly. But I don’t know, I don’t know” , said the president of Chega with “what circulated” and in “videos on the internet” that he saw, pointing out that the case must now be investigated by the authorities.
The president of Chega indicated that the party maintains its position that Portugal is not a racist country.
“I think we shouldn’t make racism an issue in Portugal, because I think Portuguese society is not racist”, pointing out that “this is not a political problem in the country”.
And he said that the President of the Republic “also said, said that Portugal is not a racist country”, but that “there are sectors of society more prone to racism”.
“We are now entire communities around the world and Portugal that has become increasingly a country of many as well, with Brazilian communities, for many years with African communities and many Afro-descendants”, listed André Ventura.
The far-right deputy also thought that “it’s only going to Portugal to escalate this party”.
“We must maintain the same firmness that we have, we are the same society of equals in which everyone must have rights, but they are all Brazilians, Portuguese of origin, gypsies, Afro-descendants, and this is what we have all defended, equal duties for all” , he added.
Also referring to his intervention, two weeks ago, in the debate on the revision of the foreign law that led to a moment of Arrival with the President of the Assembly of the Republic and the abandonment of the Chamber by the deputies – André Ventura defended that “there is nothing to see neither xenophobia nor racism, it has to do with a country that has to have control over its borders” in the face of “illegal immigration” and “the consequences that this can have, whether they are from which country before”.
