One of the biggest challenges that school-age children in Côte d’Ivoire face is the lack of classrooms. These do not exist, or, when they do exist, they are overcrowded, making learning a difficult and unpleasant experience. Ivory Coast needs 5,000 classrooms to meet the needs of children without a place to 1. To help fill this gap, Kiwanis International partnered with UNICEF to use recycled plastic collected from polluted areas in and around Abidjan and build 500 classrooms for over 25,000 children with the greatest needs over the next two years, with the potential to increase this production. “We collaborated with UNICEF on this project because we want our business model to have a social impact. By turning plastic pollution into an opportunity, we want to help bring women out of poverty and leave a better world for children, ”said Isabel Cristina Gamez, co-founder and CEO of Conceptos Plasticos. KCSM thanks all contributors for their generous support, event sponsors, club members and friends for always and tirelessly believing in Kiwanis goals.
