Huge layers for Slovakia! An important computer pioneer has died: Čaputová is also mourning
POVAŽSKÁ BYSTRICA – Slovakia was hit by particularly sad news about the death of an important computer pioneer who became a co-founder of computer science in Slovakia. In 2020, he earned a state award for his work, namely the order of Ľudovít Štúr II. classes.
Ondrej Demáček was born in Považská Bystrica. In 1973, he started working at the Jura Hronac Gymnasium in Bratislava, where he focused mainly on students who showed an interest in programming, which they loved. He even became a strong computer pioneer who did a creditable job of inspiring students to pursue computer science.
“At a time when computers looked completely different from how I know them today, Ondrej Demáček initiated the founding of the programming category of the Mathematical Olympiad, in which his students placed in national rounds and in the international Informatics Olympiad. He founded the Correspondence Seminar in Programming, thanks to which he inspired many students and students to study in the field of computer science. the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová, remarked about this important man.
We thank this wonderful teacher not only for the fact that he was part of the people who managed to get information in Slovakia, but also for the fact that, thanks to him, Slovaks became employees of huge and successful companies such as Google, Eset or even Facebook. The students still remember him as an important teacher who has left an impression on them to this day. “RIP great person and educator with a big heart. He taught my 8 years older brother, me and my son, he left a big mark on each of us.” remarked Katka. Karolína joined immediately “Mr. Demáček made a cube out of matches without a single drop. He gave it to me as a souvenir when I was at GJH to give a graduation lecture. I think he was an unforgettable teacher even for the students he didn’t teach.”
Not only his colleagues are mourning, but also the president
The huge class of workers of the prominent teacher also affected the Jura Hronac Gymnasium, where he worked for many years. “Our former longtime colleague, a great person and teacher, co-founder of informatics in Slovakia, lover of nature and folk traditions, RNDr. Ondrej Demáček. He will remain forever in our hearts as an inimitable and unique HUMAN,” his colleagues noted.
His meritorious work was recognized in 2020 by the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová, who awarded him the state award of the Order of Ľudovít Štúr II. classes. The news of the death of Ondrej Demáček also affected her and she expressed, “sincere condolences to his family, friends and also to all his pupils and students, whom he inspired and important meaning with his work. Honor to his memory.’
Ondrej Demáček died on Thursday 28.7. 2022 at the age of 81, when, unfortunately, I lost to a serious illness. The last farewell to this important and successful teacher will be on August 3. 2022 at 11:45 in the crematorium in Záhorská Bystrica, Bratislava.
