The government has ordered gas suppliers to build and secure reserves in neighboring countries equal to 15 percent of the country’s annual consumption of 35 terawatt hours
additional options for non-Russian gas of around 6 terawatt hours, a fifth of winter consumption.

Switzerland does not have its own gas storage capacity.
“The regional (gas) companies have now achieved between 75 and 100 percent of the target for the development of gas reserves in gas storage facilities,” quotes Thomas Hegglin from the Swiss Gas Industry Association.
The regional suppliers are also on track to secure the targeted options by November, he added.
Switzerland obtains its gas via trading hubs in neighboring countries of the European Union, so disruptions there would also affect Switzerland.
Switzerland has a relatively low gas requirement, covering around 15 percent of total energy consumption. According to government figures, around 42 percent of gas is used for heating homes, with the rest used in industry, services and transport.
