After long days of dry and very warm weather, Slovakia finally experienced heavy rainfall, which occurred in several places of our territory. The east is plagued by intense storms, while the rest of our territory is raining fairly heavily.
Watch out for storms in the east
Very warm air flows over eastern Slovakia even at this moment, east of the Košice-Prešov junction (2:00 p.m.). Temperatures thus rise above +30 °C. Somewhere above Košice and Prešov is the head of a cold front, on which storms form.
Storms, which the current rate and other districts of eastern Slovakia are very intense and also bring dangerous weather phenomena. During the afternoon, intense storms should also be expected in other parts of eastern Slovakia and until later in the afternoon.
The weather in the south of Slovakia is expecting storms already in the morning. More than 4,500 lightning strikes have struck our territory since the morning, with the majority of the precipitation hitting the south of the territory.

It has already rained heavily
As we mentioned in the introduction, Slovakia has finally seen the higher rainfall that we have been waiting for for so long. Most of it fell from storms, but also from heavy rain, which has been bringing precipitation to central and western Slovakia since the morning.
In the past 12 hours, the most precipitation fell in the region of Central Pohronia. In the area of Zlaty Moraviec, rain gauges already register about 40 mm of rain. Between 25 and 30 mm fell in the Partizánske and Prievidza area. A lot of rain also fell in the area of Lučenac, around 35 mm.
In the rest of the territory, the average precipitation totals are around 10 mm. As can be seen on the current map, precipitation has already affected practically our entire territory, and in areas where precipitation has not yet occurred, it will fall in the coming hours.
More precipitation is expected throughout today. The precipitation will gradually subside from the west. In western Slovakia, the current precipitation activity has already stopped and will continue to weaken, while in central Slovakia the precipitation will weaken until the evening.
Storms are expected in the east, which will also gradually change to rain. In the evening, it should already rain heavily only in the extreme east and northeast. However, that will not be all.
