Transport of 29 thousand euros in luggage: seizure of currency at Genoa airport
The activity to combat the illegal transfer of currency continued through a coordinated action plan by the officials of the Customs and Monopoly Agency.
In recent months, these activities have been further expanded in consideration of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, providing for careful checks on passengers, aimed above all at combating cross-border traffic.
The officials of the Customs Office of Genoa, in collaboration with the soldiers of the Guardia di Finanza, in the service at the C. Colombo Airport in Genoa, seized banknotes of different currencies, for a total value of about € 29,000.
To the canonical question “Nothing to declare? ”A passenger of Russian nationality, departing on a private flight to Greece, replied that he was carrying cash for less than 10,000 euros. However, around 29,000 euros were found from checks by officials and military personnel to passenger personnel.
By applying the currency legislation on the compulsory customs declaration for money transfers equal to or greater than € 10,000, 15% of the excess of the undeclared sum was therefore seized, for a total value of approximately € 2,800. .
