Speaking to Televisão da Guiné-Bissau and Lusa in Creole, made at Bissau airport, moments after the take-off of the plane carrying Macron back to France after a few hours’ visit to Guinea-Bissau, Embaló noted that the first visit of a French head of state to the country “was a complete success”.
“President Macron called, in front of me, the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, asking him that Portugal and France support Guinea-Bissau. This is extremely important”, said the Guinean President.
Umaro Sissoco Embaló also said that he would convey to Emmanuel Macron the will of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to hold, next month, in an African country, a summit at which Portugal and France will be invited to discuss the issue. do terrorism.
The Guinean President stressed that Macron’s visit, “the first by a head of state of a country that is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council” represents “the relaunch of Guinea-Bissau”.
Umaro Sissoco Embaló also highlighted the visit, in May 2021, of the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
“For me this is a milestone. It’s like the visit of the Portuguese President, now Macron has come. On the day the American President comes to this sub-region, I’m sure he will come to Guinea-Bissau”, underlined Embaló.
The French President arrived in Bissau on Wednesday night for a visit of a few hours, leaving this Thursday in the Guinean capital, after a tour that took him to Benin and Cameroon.
At the end of the meeting with his counterpart from Bissau, Emmanuel announced that the country is going with the training of Guinean military and three to disburse the stabilization of millions of euros.
