International mountain day: the Republic of San Marino sends a 5 euro silver coin to the track
Famous for Mount Titano, the Republic of San Marino does not miss the opportunity to celebrate International Mountain Day by minting a 5 euro silver coin distributed at the same time as the 2022 Brilliant Uncirculated divisional coin in circulation since 26 July. On the reverse of the 5 euro coin is depicted the First Tower which stands right on top of the Titan.
(TurismoItaliaNews) International Mountain Day, an anniversary established by the UN General Assembly and globally led by FAO, is celebrated on 11 December around the world. The aim of the day is to raise public awareness on the importance of the conservation of mountain ecosystems and on the necessary sustainable development of the mountain, home to an inestimable heritage of biodiversity and primary resources. The First Tower on Mount Titano, the largest and oldest of the three fortresses, dating back to the 11th century, was chosen as the subject of the 5 euro silver coin. On the obverse of the coin, whose circulation is 9,000 copies, a symbolic composition is depicted with the Three Towers that stand out on Mount Titano, on whose tops are placed the three Feathers, symbols of the Republic of San Marino.
As usual, of course, the rest of the divisional coinage Brilliant Uncirculated 2022, whose circulation is 11,000 copies. The facade of the Capuchin church is reproduced on the 5 cent coin starting from 2017: the building dates back to the 16th century and is dedicated to San Quirino, in memory of the failed attempt to occupy the Republic by Fabiano da Monte San Savino on 4 June 1543. The facade has a harmonious portico, under which in 1849 Garibaldi, having taken refuge in San Marino to escape the Austrian army, disbanded his troops. In the churchyard there is a column with an aedicule containing the statue of St. Francis blessing, both dating back to the early twentieth century. The convent with a cloister that preserves a characteristic well is attached to the church. The prison is currently located behind the Capuchin church.
