Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s envoy to Sweden discusses the Nouri case
Iran’s ambassador to Sweden, Ahmad Masoumifar, met with Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and informed the top Iranian diplomat about his mission in the political, international, regional, economic and commercial fields.
During this meeting, Amir-Abdollahian gave the necessary guidelines for the future plans for relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Sweden.
The two sides discussed the case of Iranian citizen Hamid Nouri who was illegally arrested by Swedish police in November 2019.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined that the Stockholm court has no jurisdiction to deal with such alleged crimes and made important recommendations regarding the imprisonment of Hamid Nouri in this country.
On July 12, Iran’s Supreme Human Rights Council called on the United Nations to hold the Swedish government accountable for the illegal detention and trial of Nouri, while demanding his immediate release.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had also emphasized the immediate release of Nouri in a telephone conversation with his Swedish counterpart Ann Linde.
Nouri was arrested on arrival at Stockholm airport in November 2019 and immediately imprisoned on false charges.
He has been in solitary confinement for over two years. Swedish prosecutors have sought a maximum life sentence for the former Iranian law enforcement official, falsely accusing him of abusing prisoners in the 1980s.
The charges against Nouri stem from accusations leveled against him by members of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MKO) terrorist organization.
