Return to alert status? Portugal makes a new assessment this Tuesday
The Government meets this Tuesday with the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) to reassess the fire situation in Portugal and decide whether to maintain the current scenario (without) or return to the alert situation.
In the last assessment, which took place on Sunday, the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Patrícia Gaspar, decided that “it was not necessary to reactivate the alert situation” to respond to forest fires.
According to the official, the decision will take the fact that “a probable summer scenario” is foreseen for the coming days in terms of meteorology. However, the risk of rural fire remains due to the extreme drought situation.
Gaspar advanced in the operational and surveillance mechanism authority of the national height authority and civil protection (ANEPC) and the GNR was “sufficient to deal with any eventual occurrence that may arise Pat.
However, as the situation is constantly evolving, there will be a new reassessment this Tuesday.
It is recalled that mainland Portugal entered a Contingency Situation, according to the level of response provided for in the Civil Protection Basic Law, on the 11th of July and on the 14th the Government decided to extend this situation until the 17th.
On the other hand, due to an improvement in conditions, on July 18, it changed to Alert Situation, which is, according to the Civil Protection Basic Law, the least serious level, below the Contingency Situation and the most serious level. , the Calamity Situation, which was never addressed.
Remember here all the measures that imply each situation.
Days later, on July 21, the Minister of Internal Administration, José Luís Carneiro, announced the end of the alert situation. “It was decided to end the alert situation throughout the mainland”, he announced at the time.
Still, estimates remain every two days, as fires still persist in some regions of the country. On Monday, there were seven active fires, two of which were already under resolution.
