Political ticker: Missing data basis for vacancies, criticism of Willi
In Tyrol and especially in Innsbruck there is no data for a vacancy fee. Mayor Georg Willi is heavily criticized after an interview with his view into the future.
INNSBRUCK. “There is no data for a vacancy fee in Tyrol and especially in Innsbruck,” reports LA Evelyn Achhorner (FPÖ) in a broadcast. “Nevertheless, the law was passed in the Tyrolean state parliament, against our votes,” she adds. Achhorner points out that an interesting data basis would be found, namely in the statistical quarterly sheets of the city of Innsbruck from 2019 (04/2019) regarding the Olympic Village and from 2021 (03/2021) in the Hötting West area. “The register of buildings and dwellings is very accurate in these parts of the city. It clearly shows how many large apartments are half-empty, which can also be described as structurally understaffed. 47 percent of all apartments in the O-village are underoccupied. In the Technik-Peerhöfe area, this is more than 30 percent of all apartments. The larger an apartment, the higher the under-occupancy. That goes up to over 60 percent of 5-room apartments and 77 percent of all 6-room apartments,” the FPÖ politician quotes from the statistics. For Achhorner it is clear that small apartments are more expensive than large ones, so of course nobody wants them swap or move. “Instead of demanding a lot of new apartments, the apartment structure in Innsbruck should be reconsidered”, concludes Achhorner.

polarization experiments
“A mayor of the city of Innsbruck should unite the people and ensure a good working atmosphere among the factions in the municipal council. Willi does the opposite, he blew up the city coalition and is now trying to massively polarize for campaign tactical reasons by presenting himself as the good and hardworking and branding the other factions as the bad brakemen he has to fight against. In fact, the emergency brake had to be pulled on many Willi projects in the past because they were completely immature and far from ready for a decision by the municipal council, if you only think of the Boznerplatz project, for example, which only came after several Start-ups and special meetings could be decided. Wherever it was possible – as in the case of the Luggerplatz project, for example – we supplemented or improved many of his motions in the sense of constructive criticism in order to make a decision possible at all. These attempts at polarization show that Willi has apparently already caught the election campaign fever,” reacts GR Christopher Apple (ÖVP) in a broadcast on Willis statements in the Tyrol live interview. “It’s not the local councils who have too little trust in the civil service, as Willi tries so hard to portray in the interview, but the majority of the local council often has little trust in the sometimes unorganized working methods of Mayor Willi and Str. Schwarzl,” counters Appler. “Today’s announcement by Georg Willi that he wants to run again as mayor is a real declaration of war on all those citizens who want orderly conditions and a functioning administration in our city again. And of course to all motorists, because Willi’s declared goal is to introduce the nationwide 30 km/h speed limit in Innsbruck.”, according to Appler. “The only joy is that by and large the budget path WILL be met. However, this also shows that Willis’ first budget draft – the so-called pie budget – with the sword of Damocles of the apparent necessity of having to fire employees in the city hall, would have been completely wrong and that the draft amendment we have created is the right and realistic approach”. , concludes Appler.
infrastructural projects
StR Rudi Federspiel (FPÖ) sharply criticizes the statements made by Mayor Willi in a recent interview: “The green Mayor Georg Willi drove the Innsbruck magistrate to the wall in terms of personnel and structure, there is no trace of leadership competence,” explains Federspiel. Federspiel also refers to the most important construction sites in the city. “Green ‘prestige projects’ – which are of no use to anyone – such as the destruction of Bozner Platz, one of the last green spaces in the city, are simply implemented, meaningful projects such as the urgent connection of the airport to the motorway – by means of a dedicated motorway exit, to reduce noise – and emission relief for residents in the western part of the city is being prevented by the Greens, no sensible person understands that,” Federspiel specified. For Federspiel, Willi is the worst mayor of all time in the Tyrolean state capital. “Everything he does ends up with bankruptcy and debt, it’s time he finally left for the political desert, for the good of the population.”
Willi in the victim role
The interview with Mayor Georg Willi in the Tiroler Tageszeitung or Tirol-Live speaks volumes, Liste Fritz explains in a broadcast. “Willi tries to present himself as a victim and obviously doesn’t shy away from wanting to impose his mayoral incompetence on the municipal council when it comes to personnel and employee management. It is characteristic that a mayor of the state capital stands up and acts as if he has no influence on any decision in the city and has to bow to the ‘evil’ opponent. Mayor Willi doesn’t say a word about the fact that he broke numerous campaign promises,” explains GR TThomas Mayer.
Broken coalition
“Not a word about the fact that he wanted to involve everyone and implement the best ideas for Innsbruck. Not a word about the fact that he and his underground poor communication led to the city coalition of the Greens, For Innsbruck, ÖVP and SPÖ bursting. With his How are small and medium-sized businesses in Innsbruck doing? How are the inner-city merchants doing in Innsbruck? How are the schools and kindergartens in Innsbruck doing? How are we supposed to satisfy the numerous construction sites he has opened up in the next few years? Our mayor is not interested in any of that make the incumbent mayor celebrate!” May says with conviction.
No part of a right-wing conservative majority
“We resolutely reject Mayor Willi’s accusation of being part of a ‘right-wing conservative majority’. We actually no longer know in which world our mayor lives, but if he were to take a close look at the applications and inquiries on the Fritz list, he would find that his political classification is duly wrong. At Liste Fritz, we put the concerns of the citizens of Innsbruck in the foreground and build many municipal council initiatives on the fact that people turn to us with questions, wishes and visions. Mayor Willi has no idea about this, because he cycles through the city with blinders on and doesn’t even begin to realize what the people of Innsbruck need! His pigeonhole thinking is extremely embarrassing, considering that he lets numerous motions from other factions in the Innsbruck municipal council gather dust in random drawers. We want to change Innsbruck for the better and we will continue to do our utmost to achieve this!” concludes Mayer.
