After four years in Mondeville (R1), Zurab Sopromadze is committed to theAG Caen at the top level. The central midfielder trained at Stade Malherbe was very keen to discover the National 3, where he hopes to monopolize the top of the table.
Signing in National 3, was that your goal?
Honestly Yes. If I hadn’t signed for a National 3 club, I would have stayed in Mondeville. After three seasons in Regional 1, I wanted to confront myself at a higher level for my personal progress. I felt like I could go there. Even if the last season was not very good collectively, I was able to highlight myself. I think I was regular.
How did you end up at AG Caen?
The new coach had inquired about me. I had a discussion with him. He told me he wanted me to come. The president called me in turn and it was done that way. The departure of Léo Hamel accelerated things, even if they wanted to recruit me in any case. For me, it’s ideal to stay in Caen, because I live with my mother. It would have been more difficult to go to another city.
What role can you have in this team?
In my head, I’m going there to start. Then I know it won’t be easy. There will be strong competition. On the pitch, the coach knows that I am a very versatile player. I can play everywhere in the axis, in 6, in 8 or in 10. He awaits me in the control of the ball. I am a ball player. We want to keep the ball, not be a defensive team.
Should the AG Caen be a step in your progression?
I hope it will be. When you are surrounded by good players, you can only be good. The coach told me he could make me progress and help me aim higher. He has already done this with players of my profile in the past.
