French cricketer Gustav Mckeon becomes the youngest cricketer to score a goal in the 20th century
At 18 years and 280 days, French opener Gustav McKeon became the first teenager to score a T20I century in men’s cricket. McKeon smoked a 61-ball 109 against Switzerland in Vantaa. His knock was peppered with five fours and nine sixes. It was only the second international match for the youngster.
He scored 76 of 54 balls on his debut against the Czech Republic on Sunday.
The youngster’s hundred was in vain, however, as Switzerland claimed a one-wicket win and overtook France’s 157-for-five with a four from the final ball of the run-chase.
Swiss skipper Faheem Nazir topped the leaderboard with a 46-ball 67, with Ali Nayyer’s late-over heroics securing the last-gasp win. Nayyer shot 12 from the last three balls, including a four from the last ball, to break the hearts of the French.
McKeon broke Dasher Hazratullah Zazai’s record by more than two years, scoring the 162* on 62 balls of the Afghan opener against Ireland in 2019 at 20 years and 337 days.
