Fire in the Karst under control, preventive measures announced
KOSTANJEVICA ON THE KRAS – Prime Minister Robert Golob, President Borut Pahor and Defense Minister Marjan Šarec visited the Karst in western Slovenia, where a large-scale fire has been raging for ten days, which, according to the authorities, is under control. Golob announced measures to eliminate the consequences of the fire, as well as measures to prevent new outbreaks of fires of such proportions in the region. The head of the intervention, Simon Vendramin, warned that the area will have to be monitored for a few more days to prevent the fire from recurring. Today’s firefighting was focused on aerial firefighting, there was a risk that the gale would fan the fire. The authorities thanked everyone who helped put out the fire, and Pahor pointed out the extraordinary solidarity shown during the fire.
The president honored the Nazi victims in Bistrica
NAKLO – On Saturday evening, the President of the Republic, Borut Pahor, attended a memorial ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Nazis killing 59 people in the village of Bistrica near Nakle in the north of Slovenia. “Since the war raged in Ukraine, I perceive this kind of commemoration in our homeland and abroad differently. The question of the inevitability of war, war and peace, is being raised anew,” Pahor said in the ceremonial speech. As his office stated in a press release, he once again emphasized the importance of a just peace in Ukraine.
Pogačar failed to defend the Tour de France title, finishing second

He won the white shirt for the third time in a row as the best young rider. The title went to the Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo-Visma), while the third was the British Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). In the end, the gap between Pogačar and Vingegaard was two minutes and 43 seconds.
Climbing star Garnbretov continues his winning streak
LJUBLJANA/BRIANCON, France – Top Slovenian climber Janja Garnbret continued her winning streak in Briancon, France on Saturday, claiming her fourth consecutive World Cup victory. Another Slovenian, Vita Lukan, silver medalist at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games, placed seventh. In the men’s competition, Slovenian Luka Potočar was eighth. Garnbretova remains the favorite for the upcoming European Championship in Munich, Germany.
