Peron achieved his first professional victory at the Kranje Grand Prix in Slovenia
“It’s been a long time. Ten years to come so close and finally win is incredible. Phenomenal. Not only for me, but for the whole team and everyone in the world who lives with diabetes. It’s also for them,” said Andrea Peron.

The fast, exciting laps of GP Kranj took place under the hot Slovenian sun, and the Novo Nordisk team was getting closer and closer to the front of the race in each lap with only one goal – victory.
The versatile Italian sprinter Andrea Peron returned to the races after a month’s absence and picked up where he left off, only this time instead of a podium finish and another near drop, the 33-year-old Venetian finally realized his dream. and first professional victory.
“I have no words right now,” Peron began. “I’m too emotional. It took a long time. To come so close for ten years and finally win is incredible. Phenomenal. Not just for me, but for the whole team and everyone around the world living with diabetes. This is also for them.”
After a strong move by the former Hungarian champion Petar Kusztor, Peron let fly. Attacking the back ramp to the finish and maintaining speed all the way to the line.
“I felt really good at home the last few days and I knew I could do well here and if everything went right we could win. The whole team drove excellently today. We had fast laps where it was easy to panic and try to progress too fast, but we were patient and it paid off.”
“Peter (Kusztor) did his best in the last lap to take me to the front and I knew I could win this final if I kept my speed. After 10 years of being so close to winning it feels so good because I always believed in myself, but more importantly this team always believed in me and there’s no better way to repay everyone. Diabetes doesn’t hold you back, and if that’s not proof of that, then I don’t know what is.”
Chief Sporting Director, Massimo Podenzana:
“I’ve known Andrea since I was a kid and he’s been knocking on doors for years with seconds, thirds and more tens you can throw. But today was his day and our day. Today we had the number one car after the race organizers assigned the numbers and I had a feeling that this could be our moment.”
“This team is special, we say that a lot, but it’s true and winning like that, with confidence and teamwork, makes me happy. The boys were all together today and everyone did their job. Until the last moment. I’m so proud of these guys.”
