A strong thunderstorm made several fire brigade operations necessary on Thursday evening in Salzburg’s Lungau. The municipalities of Zederhaus and Thomatal were hardest hit. Several flooded basements of single-family houses had to be pumped out and creek blockages had to be solved. In the village of Bundschuh, the Fischerbach burst its banks after heavy rain and hail, the police reported. The state road was impassable.

The fire brigade was able to prevent further damage thanks to their quick intervention. An obstruction was removed in the area of the Fischerbrücke with an excavator. Even smaller mudslides that had gone off, the helpers in the evening.

In the Zederhausen district of Wald, the Nahendfeldbach had partially burst its banks. The road to the Riedingtal had to be closed there for safety reasons until Friday morning, said Zederhausen’s local fire brigade commander, Harald Pfeifenberger. According to the police, no one was injured in the operation.
Heavy storm also in Carinthia
Storms with heavy rain and hail also created floods and mudflows in Carinthia on Friday night. 31 fire brigades with 465 men and women were deployed, the state alarm and warning center reported on Friday at the request of the APA. The municipalities of Radenthein, Bad Kleinkirchheim (district of Spittal an der Drau) and Gnesau (district of Feldkirchen) were particularly affected.
During the night there was a civil defense alarm in the affected area. People have been asked to stay in their homes. The alarm for Radenthein was lifted again on Friday morning. In the village of Leoben in Krems, there was initially a civil defense warning, but this should soon be lifted. In the morning, seven fire departments in Radenthein and Bad Kleinkirchheim were still busy with the clean-up work.
The police reported that the Kaningerbach and the Roßbach flooded and washed out streets. Adjacent houses must be evacuated. There was unexpected property damage, but there were no injuries. Some roads in the Döbriach, Radenthein and Bad Kleinkirchheim areas will be closed. The emergency services pumped out the basement and made the streets passable again. In the district of Feldkirchen, the Turracher Straße (B95) became impassable due to flooding and mudslides. Water has repeatedly penetrated the ground floor of a residential building in Gnesau within a few weeks, causing extensive property damage.
