The Provincial President of Confcommercio Indino “due to the lack of personnel to be employed in the activities, summer 2022 is emerging as the most difficult ever”
“This is a situation that our Riviera cannot endure any longer, because it puts a pentaglio of the founding elements of our tourist offer, starting with the quality of the services”.
The provincial President of Confcommercio Gianni Indino intervenes on the emergency of the lack of personnel in the activities. “There is no doubt that the season we are experiencing will be remembered for the difficulties our operators are facing. The pandemic that continues to bite, the uncertainties linked to the conflict in Ukraine, the dizzying increase in energy costs, raw materials, the shortage of personnel. Precisely for this last aspect, the lack of personnel to be employed in the activities, summer 2022 is emerging as the most difficult ever, with many activities especially in the tourism sector forced to limit their services or reshape their offer: hotels that kitchens close, restaurants forced to close the pizzeria department more due to the lack of pizza chefs, just to name a few examples among the applicants. This is a situation that our Riviera cannot endure any longer, because it puts some of the founding elements of our tourist offer into perspective, starting with the quality of services. Many entrepreneurs are forced to make up for the urgent and expected shortcomings of professionals in the sector themselves and after having given a fund of knowledge to be able to find professionals, to whom we try to find replacements in the shortest possible time those essential elements of profession. However, as we all know, it is not easy to meet the standards we are used to offering, despite the commitment and enthusiasm that are lavished. forgetting – and how could it be – Covid is one of the consequences of its spread that affects even these ambitious ones in a decisive way, forcing many workers to home and thus exacerbating an already very difficult situation. However, the lack of episodic and emerging staff, difficulties in covering a shift or a service, represent only one of the consequences of a real staff structure, especially in the tourism sector, as we have been denouncing for years, but which today has become unsustainable. Not later than a week ago, I represented all this to the presidents of the Italian territorial Confcommercio and to the leaders of the national Confcommercio, denouncing our difficulties and our concerns, but at the same time emphasizing the solutions that our national organization and the sector Federations are carrying on with the utmost commitment. The government crisis will have to represent only a parenthesis, we hope as short as possible, to the resumption of the discussion tables as soon as possible. Lowering of the tax wedge, review of citizenship income, closer to the needs of businesses, support for seasonal workers to make employment at our tourist companies more negotiable, contractual institutions more responsive to the flexibility needs of businesses, just to name a few of the measures on which new policies on the subject of work must be based, because today, as we are experiencing first hand in the Riviera, there is no Plan B to this, if not by questioning our tourism model at its very foundations. Solutions are needed and they are needed quickly. In the meantime, there is a season to carry on in the midst of all these difficulties, however I am convinced that once again our entrepreneurs and our workers, in their own field, will be able to offer the holiday offer possible to the many tourists who are also preferring this. ‘year”.
