“Abortion, the appeal must be limited”
“Improve the law to limit the use of abortion.” This is the hope formulated by the Bishop of the Diocese of San Marino and Montefeltro, Monsignor Andrea Turazzi, in view of the convening of the Council Commission which today will have the task of drafting the definitive text of the law on voluntary interruption of pregnancy, acknowledging the will popular express with the referendum of 26 September 2021.
In a note sent yesterday, therefore, Monsignor Turazzi wishes to share «some constructive and frank thoughts», who spoke «in full respect of the institutions and democratic procedures». It is not his competence, he acknowledges, nor his duty to “intervene on the technical aspects” but emphasize “some ethical requirements”. Even if for a gattotolico no law can make the killing of a life lawful, he reiterates that “it is important to improve the law and limit the use of abortion”. He therefore hopes that all political forces “fulfill the promise made in the referendum campaign: to create a prevention network and invest more in education to respect the body and emotional relationships”. Meanwhile, he invites us to set “the time limit” for abortion, banning the trade in human tissues and recognizing the right to conscientious objection for doctors and paramedics.
Union of women
“After 18 years of struggles, winning a referendum with 77.3% of the votes is not enough to have a secular law that respects personal choices”, comment the representatives of the Women’s Union who, promoters of the referendum, criticize the path proposed by the counterpart and defined as “obliged and obstacles, to make one feel guilty rather than to inform”. Finally, they anticipate the debate on the responsibility of the Tribunetta “by pointing out who will not demonstrate serious political will, as well as the will of the people”.
