Three friends founded a brand of the future: In Slovakia, they sew T-shirts on which sweat and dirt cannot be seen
Czech brand CityZen, which sews in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, is gaining many fans. Clothes that don’t show sweat and can withstand dirt like red wine. It is unique, which has no period in the world. All this thanks to premium cotton without the use of underarm inserts or maximum membrane.
The brand was founded by three friends in Chrudim. The first impetus was the invention of René Nemeček, who wanted to find out something new from his studies, something that would move the textile world forward. The idea of an unusual T-shirt matured in his head for 15 years until the first prototype was made. Improving an ordinary T-shirt was a real challenge. It’s a piece of clothing that we’ve practically worn since its inception, and we all wear it every day. Something had to be done about it.
Thanks to the patented technology, CityZen cotton t-shirts, polo shirts, shirts and underwear do not seep sweat into the outer layers. The material absorbs it, spreads it on the inside to a large area, which then dries faster and does not cool as much. That’s why you won’t see any sweaty maps on the t-shirts.
From the outside, the clothes work in reverse – they are hydrophobic. All liquids run off it, and if thicker dirt sticks to the surface, simply wipe it off with a damp cloth or conveniently wipe it down. But we are still talking about cotton, so the material is breathable and pleasant to the touch.
In order for T-shirts to go with almost everything, they mainly sew monochromatic pieces that can be used not only for leisure time, but also in a more elegant outfit for work. They have many shades, especially for ladies. From the basics of every wardrobe – black and white, to such snacks as emerald or coral.
Things go better in a trio
René had an idea, but he needed someone else to establish the brand and start production. Stlažil confided over a beer to his friends, entrepreneurs Pavlov Hrstek and Martin Burkoň, who got excited and went for it. In 2018, they founded a company and started producing unique T-shirts.
They started production in the Czech Republic, but due to great interest, they also expanded it to Slovakia. They want to support local labor markets: “We see no reason to ship containers of cheap clothing halfway around the world when we can make it ourselves.” says Pavel Hrstka. The guys are trying to restore the glory of Czechoslovak textiles that we had in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century.
The entire production takes place in the Czech Republic and Slovakia – from the first thread to the inspection of each product after sewing. The only thing we can find in our region so far are cotton mills, so they import this raw material to us. For the production of the highest quality cotton available on the market – from cross cotton. It is mainly about producing quality instead of quantity, which is why it is necessary to start with quality raw materials.
Made in Slovakia and ecologically
In production, they use the most modern procedures in the textile industry. For example, 100 liters of water are needed to dye a kilogram of textile material. In CityZen, they consume a maximum of 40 liters and, moreover, shorten the entire process by a third. Less time means less energy.
T-shirts are also suitable for very sensitive skin. Their dyes do not contain silver or other substances that often irritate the skin. Also comply with the EU REACH legislation, which aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment in connection with the production of chemical substances.
It’s not just about T-shirts
They started with three shades of men’s short-sleeve crew-neck t-shirts. In three years, they added men’s V-neck t-shirts, men’s long-sleeved t-shirts, men’s shirts and polo shirts. For ladies, they have T-shirts with short sleeves in two cuts, T-shirts with three-quarter sleeves, Plus Size T-shirts and tank tops ideal for summer. They also have nursing t-shirts for mothers, with unique materials and cuts.
As for underwear, they offer antibacterial men’s boxers and women’s briefs. Antibacterial treatment prevents the growth of bacteria, so you will feel comfortable all day. The fact that the material doesn’t let something out just like that adds security, no matter what happens.
Invisible t-shirts under the shirt are also an interesting product. Body t-shirts that take the place of undershirts and help people not to sweat in the clothes they already have in their closet at home. They sew these t-shirts in two variants – with a single and with a double underarm for those who have to be constantly on the move and cannot afford even a sign of sweat. Women’s invisible t-shirts fit under blouses, dresses or sweaters and thanks to the body color they are not visible even under white clothes, men use them mainly under shirts.
They want an important life for everyone and expand
In the future, they plan to add more types of clothing that will have the same unique features as their t-shirts. They are already working on women’s dresses and, for example, on men’s trousers. They also want to return to other materials – merino wool and linen t-shirts are already in production.
The company is attracting interest from all over Europe and plans to expand to neighboring countries. For now, it sells in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, but other countries are also planned. They would love to have at least one CityZen t-shirt in every closet. T-shirts are ideal for everyday city life, which is more hectic and fast-paced than ever before. And hand on heart – who wouldn’t want to stretch their arms above their head without worries, even in an overheated office?
