Sinkos Musiksalon #7: Bernhard Paumgartner and the Salzburg…
The Salzburg Festival has begun, including with a public dress rehearsal for a Mozart matinee. Bernhard Paumgartner once invented this popular concert series. He was a festival man from the very beginning, impresario, conductor, teacher of the long-standing festival director Herbert von Karajan and the man at whose side the theater magician Max Reinhardt decided to play Hofmannsthal’s “Jedermann” on the Salzburg Cathedral Square. Reason enough to ask at the beginning of the festival: Who was Bernhard Paumgartner?
