Manager, Development and Outreach – Sweden

The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is looking for applicants for the position of director to focus on event strategy in Sweden, including our flagship fundraising event, Voices for Justice Annual Dinner. In collaboration with the Development and Outreach Team in Stockholm, the manager will actively participate in the local fundraising strategy by developing and maintaining a portfolio of supporters and improving both internal and external communication. This full-time position will be based at our Stockholm office and will report to Stockholm’s City Director.
Due to covid-19, many of our global offices work with reduced capacity. The successful candidate may need to work remotely if local assignments require it. We realize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, especially those with caring responsibilities, and we strive to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both recruitment and access to this position.
Responsibility:
1. Work in partnership with Stockholm’s City Director on the fundraising strategy for Sweden and its implementation;
2. Manage the production and logistics of collection, outreach and cultivation events in Sweden, including HRW’s annual Voices for Justice dinner, research reviews, film screenings, opinion formation, cultivation events, conferences and private dinners;
3. Create agendas, event materials, background materials, brand elements, product strategy and carry out follow-up of meetings;
4. Identify areas of interest to our community with respect to HRW’s work so that the Development and Outreach Department can adopt a proactive and strategic approach to events;
5. Manage various aspects of the Stockholm Committee, including committee meetings, executive meetings, subcommittee meetings, communications, special events and projects, and work closely with the committee chairman;
6. Work with Stockholm’s City Director to investigate, identify, cultivate, serve and recruit new prospectuses, existing donors and Stockholm Committee members;
7. Coordinate public programs and outreach activities, including chairing the speaker’s outreach committee, forming relationships with partner organizations and identifying new opportunities;
8. Create and track guest lists, donor lists, fundraisers and expenses, and budget for all events;
9. Manage communication with voters by telephone, mail and electronic media;
10. Monitor prospectus and donor research and manage Salesforce donor entry;
11. Represent HRW’s work for existing and future followers; and
12. Perform other responsibilities that may be needed.
Qualifications:
Training: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communication, marketing, social sciences or related studies is required.
Experience: At least five years of relevant event planning or other fundraising experience is required.
Related skills and knowledge:
Demonstrated ability to handle high-level donor relationships is required.
Experience of coordinating events, preferably large-scale events is required.
Creativity, initiative, follow-up and excellent organizational skills are required.
Commitment to working with staff and partners in a positive, collaborative, versatile and inclusive work environment is required.
5. Good oral and written communication skills in English and Swedish are required.
Demonstrated commitment to human rights and / or international issues and the ability to master and represent HRW’s missions and programs are required.
Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from different cultures, backgrounds and orientations is required.
8. An entrepreneurial and disciplined self-starter who can work independently, but also work as a member of a development team, is highly desirable.
9. Knowledge of fundraising in Sweden is strongly preferred.
