At 77 boulevard de Rethel in the Sainte-Thérèse district in Caen (Calvados), a house with a blue front is appealing. This is a new grocery store: Bodet House. It opens its doors on Thursday July 21, 2022. Its particularity? It immediately plunges you into the past, after the Second World War.
Cider, shortbread and mustard
Pascal Bodet is at the origin of this new establishment. He simply transformed the old family home from 1932. When you push open the front door, you come across the grocery store. If all the decor is dated post 1945, the products are up to date: ciders and juices from the Sapinière farm, Norman beers, teurgoule, caramel from Isigny, shortbread from Asnelles… Only products from without forgetting the gingerbread made by Pascal and his… mustard flavored with apple, calva, raspberry!
Ration tickets
“All prices are written in chalk as before in grocery stores. There are no trolleys, but wicker baskets to put the products”. Pascal has even gone further: he distributes ration tickets to customers.
These are ration tickets for bread from 1918. From 25 € of purchases, I give two ration tickets and after 5 tickets, I offer a gingerbread.
The floor of the house can also be visited: Pascal has fitted out a kitchen and a bedroom in the atmosphere of 1945. A true enthusiast and collector, he also opens the doors of his personal museum.
Visitors could touch the objects, I want them to soak it up.
Pascal Bodet had made a call to seek the testimony of inhabitants of the Sainte-Thérèse district between 1920 and 1990. “I had 14 answers, three of which were really very enriching. He will use these stories to enhance the guided tour of the neighborhood that he organizes every Wednesday morning.
