Caen and Normandy, rear bases for the Paris 2024 Games
The reception of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic delegation highlights the ties forged between Normandy and Canada since the Second World War. Aristide Olivier, deputy mayor of sports at the City of Caen is delighted with this welcome:
It is a chance to welcome this great nation on our territory, because we have an important history with it. This will fulfill the objectives set in terms of sports policy in Caen, in order to engage the City in the Paris 2024 approach.
The Normandy Region is committed to a process of promoting a “regional network of major facilities”. For this, the community of other international delegations by offering them its regional infrastructures to prepare as closely as possible for the Paris 2024 Games. The national gymnastics delegation of Canada has already chosen Normandy and the town of Sotteville to prepare for the Commonwealth Games .
“Caen offers an ideal environment for performers”
We chose the Caen Nautical Stadium for its infrastructure, i.e. a 25m and 50m pool, and a nearby weight room (at the Hélitas stadium, editor’s note). In addition, the city of Caen offers us an environment that is both friendly and calm, so athletes can concentrate on their performance.
The Caen complex renovated in 2017 seems to delight Canadian swimmers who have come to prepare for their next international event.
Here we have the resources to tweak details that can make a big difference once in competition. The atmosphere and the infrastructures of Caen allow a good approach so that the whole team feels good.
A training session by the Canadian delegation will be open to the public on Saturday July 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Stade Nautique de Caen.
